When they bombed Falluja
we saw fires that were taller than this building.
I swear I was shaking I was so scared
the shrapnel was flying over my head.
「あいつらがファルージャを爆撃した時、
このビルよりも高い火柱があがったんだ」
「砲弾の破片が頭の上を飛んでいって、
本当に怖かった。体が震えた」


I am the father of two injured children.
We were driving home before the curfew.
We do not know why it happened.
It hit below the car and the car exploded.
His injury is muscle damage and shrapnel,
in his hip,in his leg,everywhere.
My other son,his mouth is destroyed.
His teeth are broken and he has shrapnel.
彼らは、夜間外出禁止令がでる前に車で家に帰ろうとしていて
突然車が撃たれ、爆発・炎上した。
父親が言う「子どもは体中が傷だらけで、破片が至る所に刺さっている。」


It was very difficult to leave.
We had to walk out using the old “Zoba”,the old foot bridge.
It is an old foot bridge and it is falling apart.
The people were helping us to walk on it.
The people of Baghdad came to help us.
They came and parked their cars on the other side of the river.
They walked across the bridge and took the children to the other side.
The Americans they blocked the street to go out.
They blocked the street to enter also.
They told us.“You can't get in and you can't get out.”
So they told us to stay in this place,in the desert.
So the children were left in the desert without water
from 6am to 6pm until we were allowed to leave Falluja.
「私達は、まともに避難させてもらえませんでした。
バグダッドの人々が私達を助けるために来て、川を渡らせようとしました。
しかし米軍は、ファルージャへの出入りをさせないために通りを閉鎖しました。
彼らは言いました『お前達は中に入ることも出ることもできない』
彼らは、この場所に、この砂漠にとどまるよう私たちに命じたのです。
私達がファルージャを去ることを認められるまで、
子供達は朝から晩まで水のない砂漠に放置されたのです」


There is pollution and the water is very dirty.
The kids have diarrhea.
The mosquitos,we can not sleep at night,
and now they have problems in their lungs.
水は非衛生的で、伝染病の危機にさらされている。

更に今、子供達は肺をやられています」


We are fighting in Falluja,first because we are defending our religion.
because they desecrate our holy Quran,they put the Quran in the sewage.
They rape our women,they rape them in Abu Ghraib.
The raiding,the burning,the detentions,the evictions,the killing
it is continuous,everyday and night.
These are the reasons we resists the Americans.
「俺達は、何よりもイスラム教を守る為に、このファルージャで闘っている。
やつらはコーランをトイレに流し、コーランを冒涜した」
「あいつらは女性達をレイプしている。
あいつらはアブ・グレイブで陵辱している」T
「俺達は襲撃され、火をつけられ、拘束され、追い立てられ、殺される。
このようなことが日夜を問わずずっと続いているんだ」
「それが我々が米軍に抵抗する理由だ」


My two year old child,she could not sleep.
The airplanes were always bombing.
On one side cluster bombs on the other side missiles.
They were bombing us from everywhere.
There were explosions over our heads all the time.
「私の二歳の娘は眠ることができませんでした。
飛行機が爆撃し続けていました。
こっちではクラスター爆弾が、向こうではミサイルが、
至る所から私達を攻撃していました。
私達の頭上で、休む間もなく爆発していました」


Now we get the water from the tap on the street
but you can not drink it is very dirty it has dirt in it.
We bring people with clothing to filter the water
through the clothing and then we drink it.
But if you saw it you would not even think it was clean enough
to wash your clothes in.
Now the kids are hurting with stomach problems
and their kidneys are failing.
「今では通りの蛇口からは水が出るが、それを飲むことができない、
非常に汚い、本当に汚れている。
私達は、衣類を持った人にその衣類で水をろ過してもらい、
それからそれを飲む。
しかし、もしあなたがそれを見れば、
服をそこで洗濯するのにさえ十分に清潔だと思わないだろう。
今、子供達は胃の病気で痛んでいる。そして、腎臓がやられている。」


How does the government accept this ?
They show on TV the freedom fighters
and they say they are the terrorists.
But they are calling people here terrorists
then why are they not calling Americans terrorists also ?
They would never accept this in their lives.
「政府はどうしてこんなことを容認しているのでしょうか。
政府は、抵抗するイラクの男達をテレビで映し出し、
彼らがテロリストだと言っています。
しかし、ここにいる人々をテロリストと呼ぶのであれば、
なぜ彼らはアメリカ人を同様にテロリストと呼ばないのでしょうか。
イラク人が生涯これを受け入れることはないでしょう」

The horrors of war have been rained down on the innocent civilians
in the way of American military operations.
What is happening to the civilians caught in the crossfire of combat
in Iraq is the unreported story of this war and this film just begins
to tell that story.

The Iraqi people who worked on this film and who spoke to us on camera
have taken extraordinary risks to bring this truth to you.
In Iraq the truth is a very dangerous thing to those in power and
these courageous people were willing to take these risks to bring
the truth to the world.
It is my privilege to call them friends and mentors,
and I have learned much from their courage and compassion.

Due to ongoing military operations in Iraq,
the conditions for the civilians are getting worse every day.
